This artwork was inspired by Mae Carol Jemison, an American engineer, physician and former NASA astronaut

 

She was the first black woman to travel into space, she orbited the earth for eight days in 1992 aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Jemison earned degrees in engineering, African American studies and medicine, she was a doctor in the Peace Corps before training for NASA to become an astronaut
