How do you describe your work?

I am responding to this latest body of work which I would describe as celebratory - women ‘under the influence’ of wild swimming

Irene Marot - Katherine Richards Art Gallery - Brighton and Hove

What would you say are your greatest influences?

Artists who, through history, walk individual paths and have the courage and self-belief to carve a path that does not ‘bow down’ to contemporary acceptance. And in terms of subject matter, my own narrative is influenced by an 89 year old woman who swims without fail (sometimes before first light), who has generously encouraged and supported huge swathes of women to be brave enough to dive into the deep

Who do you have in mind when you create your work?

I don’t. Only the painting itself. Unless it’s a commission and then it becomes quite problematic as knowledge of the commissioner interferes with the process

What makes your art different, special and irresistible?

I believe it to be totally authentic and that authenticity either touches the viewers heart or not

What do people say when they see your collection / portfolio? How does your art make them feel?

Uplifted and curious

What do you think motivates people to buy your art? How does it appeal to the heart?

I think my use of colour within the narrative impacts the viewer. People frequently respond to the choice of palette.
